Coping Up With COVID-19

Since March, it has been the toughest time for all of us. We have been going through something we never imagined; locking down the entire world was not easy to witness. Government took some tough steps. A lot of criticism was heard of because of the lockdown- economy suffered, daily wage workers suffered and a lot of other issues but it had a silver lining - it saved lives then. COVID 19 has led us to a lot of changes. It has made us more aware and responsible. We have our responsibilities towards ourselves, our family, friends, society, city, nation, environment, etc. Due to COVID we understand all these better; we don’t spit on the road anymore, we cover our mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, we properly wash our hands, we properly wash our vegetables, etc.  To live through the new normal we must be compassionate and loving towards others. We should be helping others. We should develop feelings of Maitri and Karuna. We should let negativity build around us.  To take ...

How many Calories are we burning while practising Yoga?

Whenever we are doing any form of workout: be it walking, cycling, zumba or Yoga, we keep wondering how many calories we have really burnt. But that question is dependent on a lot of factors like your weight, your trainer, your intensity, etc. But in Yoga we generalise it as 100-450 calories burnt per hour of Yoga practiced depending upon various variables like style, posture and practitioner. Hatha Yoga is the traditional form of Yoga which people practise. In this the average calories burnt per hour is 190-200. This form of Yoga is very slow that is why a lot of people prefer other forms of Yoga. Hatha yoga focuses on balancing being in sync with breath. Yoga focuses on balancing, strengthening, flexibility and endurance. All forms of Yoga have Hatha Yoga as their base. Confused about what the fuss is regarding calories? Calorie is the measurement of the amount of energy stored in your body and energy expenditure. Energy burns throughout the day automatically whenever you are doing a...

Importance of Morning Routine

When we get up in the morning we get up fresh and positive. It’s the most important time of the day where you feel the most energised; our morning defines the whole day. We keep believing that we have to get up from a particular side of bed otherwise our day might not be as nice/fruitful. But we, at The Yoga Institute Goa, say that if you have a proper morning routine, it will not matter from which side you got up; your day will be full of positivity any which ways. Having a morning routine can do wonders for us.  Need for routine If you look into the life of any famous/successful person, one thing we will find common is that they have a fixed routine. They have a particular schedule they follow.  When we try to get up in the morning, it's difficult for us to get out of bed. But when we have something we look forward to, we automatically gain the strength to wake up quickly.  We need something we really like to get along with the day. We need a booster, we need positivity...

How to improve academic performance?

In today’s time, all our kids are getting their assignments and home works either through Whatsapp or Facebook groups. They deal with a lot of social media today, even if it is for academic purposes. And because they have to access their assignments on social media, they start surfing other things and end up spending more time there but doing work. All this definitely impacts their academic performance. Why are our kids getting low grades? Sharing of work on social media Parental pressure to bring better marks Not enough time to play and relax Mis-managed schedule  Being compared with other friends/cousins Lack of interest in traditional topics Consequences of low grade: If our kids score low grades, they go through a lot of complications: short term or long term. Eating Right

We all restrict Yoga to Asanas and Pranayamas. Yoga is a holistic approach to developing one’s mind and soul; Yoga leads one to good health. One thing that also defines the overall well being is food; what we eat does everything to our body.  In this time when everybody is in a rush, packaged and junk food has made life easy. But the joy of slow cooking, preparing the ingredients to cook it has all gone. Everybody wants ready-to-cook meals these days; people opt for easy take-aways. These meals are absolutely unhealthy in nature.  Yoga doesn’t agree with this practice of food consumption. Yoga believes in: Positive preparations The effects of food start with how you are preparing it. Even while preparing and cooking the food, you should be in a positive state of mind. The way you feel gets into the food so be happy when cooking. Chanting or humming mantras is a good way to stay positive and feel happy.  What should my meal include? Your meal should include lots of fresh f...

New to Yoga? Here are some tips!

COVID has made us all go into the virtual world with online classes and work from home. In such times, people get confused on how do I practice at home or where should I practice. Here are some suggestions to make it easy for you. Empty Stomach: Whenever you plan to practice Yoga, you should not eat anything before 2-3 hours. A lot of Yoga postures include stomach and abdomen stretch; if you practice Yoga with a full stomach, it will be difficult for food to digest in turn causing other health problems.  Comfortable Space: Find any well-ventilated room in your house. You don’t need a huge space, just for free movement during asanas: a little more than an elbow space. Do not practice Yoga in an air-conditioned room, practice it in natural air. Try to practice in the same place daily, it will create an air of positivity.  Yoga Clothes: The simple rule to this is anything in which you feel comfortable. Your clothes should be loose and should not hinder the movement in any posture...
